MODERN TO SHUT DOORS: After 55 years, popular grocer retires

30178_122800644417034_6632113_nModern Food Center on Arthur Avenue — a treasured grocery store among Rose Hill students for its proximity to off-campus housing and wide food selection — will go out of business on Saturday, May 16, its owners announced.

The store has been open since 1960.

“The Izzo family will be retiring from the grocery business,” a Facebook post read. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patronage, loyalty, and friendship throughout the years. You have been a part of our family and for this we are forever thankful.”

Further details about the store’s closing were not immediately known.
