It’s been a long time coming, but Rose Hill’s 24-hour Walsh gate opened Thursday afternoon amid frosty temperatures on campus.

John Carroll, director of Public Safety, trumpeted the announcement to the school community in an email.

“Using the advanced technology available to us, and with the cooperation of Fordham IT, you are now able to enter and depart the Rose Hill campus via the Walsh Gate 24 hours a day,” he said. “Students, faculty, and staff can access the gate using their current Fordham I.D. card at the readers provided, beginning immediately.”

The new gate is a turnstile, but it also provides an entryway for handicapped members of the community. Users can use the gate’s built-in intercom that connects to the Public Safety office for assistance.

“We would particularly like to thank the United Student Government and our Walsh Hall residents for their patience as we completed this project,” Carroll said.
