Fordham law professor Zephyr Teachout will face Rob Astorino, FCRH ’89, in a debate this weekend — though not on campus — as both try to unseat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, FCRH ’79.
Cuomo, a popular governor with a national profile, was welcomed to participate in the debate, but his office did not respond to the invitation.
The debate will be shown on Pix 11 at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night and then again at 6 a.m. on Sunday. The debate will also be posted at pix11.com. Among those moderating the debate will be fellow Fordham professor Christina Greer.
Teachout will face Cuomo in the Democratic primary election next Tuesday (Sept. 9). Cuomo is expected to win, largely because of his name recognition and fundraising success.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is expected to face Cuomo in the general election on Nov. 4.
Over the summer, a group of Fordham students gathered on social media in an effort to get all three Fordham-connected candidates to debate on campus.
