PHOTOS: Starbucks opens steps from campus

Discounting the bohemian island of Rodrigue’s, coffee — like food in general prior to last summer’s upgrade — has long been a campus problem at Fordham, accepted by most for its utility, not comfort.

From Dagger John’s — which often wasn’t open until the early afternoon hours — to the Millennium Grille, students of the past few years have learned the hard way: Although the cup promises, “We proudly brew Starbucks,” no one should expect Sodexo to deliver Starbucks-quality coffee. Not even close.

(And the thick, Rocky Road-type brew of Cosí has stumbled to provide much solace.)

But suffer no more! A full-service, spacious and WiFi-enabled Starbucks has opened just steps from Rose Hill’s campus, on Fordham Plaza across from Best Buy and Walgreens. The walk from the outskirts of campus? A minute, maybe two.

It opened its doors last Monday, and will be in service daily from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. — though a source inside the store tells me those hours could be extended even further during the school year. (A Dunkin Donuts near campus is open 24 hours.)

No Fordham student discount currently exists — but still, it’s a real Starbucks.
