WFUV sees decline in Gala earnings

WFUV, Fordham’s public radio station, raked in $375,000 thanks to its seventh annual gala held Thursday night — a steep dip from last year’s gala, which brought in $500,000, according Chuck Singleton, the station’s general manager.

“Thank you for making the 2014 Gala a success,” Singleton said in an internal memo, distributed to WFUV’s staff. “The night had some wonderful moments, and turned out to be one of our more memorable evenings (both good and, well, less good!).”

This year’s gala honored blues and gospel singer, Mavis Staples, National Public Radio host, Scott Simon, sportscaster for CBS, Verne Lundquist and former member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration, Katherine Oliver.

Singleton said the auction was set in such a way this year that resulted in low winning bids for the live auction’s most valuable items.

“We will be in touch with all board members and major donors in attendance, asking them to reach out to their table guests, and encourage them to bid on auction items or make outright gifts to WFUV,” he said.
