Next year’s Mimes & Mummers production schedule, explained

Last year, the Mimes and Mummers performed Legally Blonde, The Real Inspector HoundNine and A Streetcar Named Desire. The 2014-15 slate of shows looks to be just as varied.

“The Mimes and Mummers are very excited to present this season that will prove to be an inquiry into identity and who we all are in both comedic and dramatic ways,” James Demetriades, vice president of Mimes, told Fordham Daily.

Mimes will submit this tentative schedule to administrators for approval this summer, which means it is subject to change.

Here’s a breakdown:

1. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

A more comedic take on Hamlet, this Tom Stoppard play tells the story from the point of view of two minor characters. This show is scheduled for the beginning of October.

2. Spamalot

This musical “lovingly ripped off from” Monty Python and the Holy Grail parodies the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This will be performed in mid-November.

3. Rent

An adaptation of the opera La Boheme that centers on bohemians living in New York City during the height of the AIDS epidemic, this rock opera made the song “Seasons of Love” famous. This show will be performed in late February or early March.

4. Inherit the Wind

This courtroom drama, about a science teacher put on trial for teaching the theory of evolution and the lawyers on either side of the case, deals with complex themes of religion and freedom of thought. This will probably be performed in April.
